Water is life.
Several folks responded to a recent Facebook Post of mine, expressing a desire to support me in going to Standing Rock. So I’m taking a “leap of faith” and heading west. But I’m going to need your help.
See the “How to Donate” at the bottom of this post! And also HERE.
I hope to spend 2-3 weeks living in the Sacred Stone camp (near the Standing Rock Sioux reservation), among the people whose heritage I share, representing all of you who stand with them through me. As Stone Camp founder LaDonna Allard said,
“We stand with prayer. When we face these types of things, we must stand with a clear mind. We stay calm, and stand, because we are prepared. We pray. That is more powerful than anything else.”
I go to Standing Rock to listen, to learn, to be an on-the-ground part of this historic gathering of indigenous peoples in prayer and sacred ceremony, holding a strong front line as Water Protectors for all. I go as someone who believes that violence does not have the last say about our earth, our water, our air, or our sisters and brothers around the globe. I am honored to, if belatedly, be able to stand publicly with my own heritage, both by tribal enrollment (Choctaw) and “soul-nurtured” (Diné).
While at Standing Rock I’ll post and do some live streams, either on Facebook or Periscope. More important, I’ll carry all your passionate souls among the peoples there. I’ll learn-by-heart and return to share my own transformed spirit in our teaching and learning together here in PA/NJ. I’ll join the front lines and learn to be a mighty Water Protector myself. I’ll help cook and care for children and run errands and, no doubt, get really cold at nights, and do anything else, just being a part of the people however I’m needed. I’ll just be me and be real (which is what folks expect of me anyway!).
I’m so thankful for the many who have already indicated a commitment to be a part of this! I know others of you want to join in as well. Here’s your opportunity. Any contribution of funds that can help make this happen is wonderful . . . it makes us a community in action.
How to Donate
You can help fund my pilgrimage by donating online using the button below. I could have set up a Go Fund Me campaign, but the Greenpoint Church offered to act as a non-profit conduit. (Thank you, Rev. Ann Kansfield!) This allows your gift to be tax deductible and keeps processing fees low. At the very bottom of the donation page, in the “Memo” field, type in the phrase, “Water is life.”
Here’s a direct link to the donation site. Just be sure to type into the Memo field (at the bottom of the donation page): Water is life.
If you’d prefer, you can do it the old-fashioned way and mail your donation.
